The Science Lab is the place where Gray Boys holders can perform experiments on their Gray Boy NFT to mutate them into various creations.
The Science Lab is fueled by the $GRAY token, as well as various "Fluids" or "Chemicals" which act as the ingredients to different mutations.
No! The original Gray Boy NFT will be retained after the experiment is completed. Instead, you will receive a new ERC-721 NFT displaying the result of your mutation.
Mutations stemming from original Gray Boys will retain at least a majority of their original traits. With the retention of the original traits, the relative rarity of the mutation will remain similar to the original Gray Boy.
Chemicals are minted, claimed, or airdropped to Gray Boys holders after an initial snapshot, but can be bought and sold as needed. Certain chemicals will have a fixed supply, where others may be continuously created in the future.

Different combinations and amounts of chemicals contribute to the outcome of science lab mutations. In general, higher/rarer levels of traits require more fluids. The exact combinations of chemicals required to perform a specific mutation at a specific level are specified within the lab itself.
